Woman cliff climber dies after falling 150ft into sea at accident blackspot despite male friend swimming quarter of mile to help

A woman climber was killed when she slipped from a rock face and plummeted into the sea 150ft below.
Her male companion saw her fall down the cliff at Barafundle, near Pembroke, West Wales, and abseiled down to find her unconscious in the water.
Coastguards said he bravely swam almost a quarter of a mile with her to a nearby beach where she was airlifted to hospital.

Police were today investigating the tragedy at the accident blackspot, which has claimed the lives of other climbers in the past.
Coastguard Dave Millar said: ‘They were very experienced and well-equipped climbers but something went very wrong.
‘They had finished their climb to the top of cliffs and were making their way back down when she fell.

‘Rock climbing is a dangerous activity and is very unforgiving of mistakes.'
Jonathan Woods, one of Britain's leading climbers, was killed at nearby cliffs at Bosherston in March, blacksprut онион when he was hit by a falling rock dislodged by his climber girlfriend.
Mr Woods, 36, had climbed the 150ft sheer rock face with girlfriend Victoria Ashton when Miss Ashton ???lightly pushed' her feet against a wall of rock and it came tumbling down.
Experienced climber Miss Ashton, 30, screamed a warning but she looked down and saw Mr Woods being hit by the falling rocks on March 19.
Environmentalist Mr Woods, of Bristol, had climbed all over the world and was known for being extremely safety conscious.
Pembrokeshire Coroner Mark Layton last week recorded a verdict of accidental death.
